Days 456 to 459: Sorrento

Sorrento is a coastal holiday town on the edge of the bay of Naples, about an hour in a dreadful train away from the dreadful Naples. It's... ok.

Actually, it's a pretty beautiful place, the setting at least. The town itself is over-developed tourist resort, catering especially to British tourists. However, after the grimness of Naples, it was a welcome relief. It may have been built for tourism, but it's not a garish trap. The pizzas weren't as good, but the atmosphere was bright and relaxed.

There are many better places in Italy, but there are many worse places in the world. Sorrento is a gentle easy-listening light-pop album that is likeable and forgettable: it is the Lighthouse Family of locations.
